What Type of Equipment Every Private Investigator Needs

If you are interested to become a private detective or private investigator , there are some necessary tools and equipment you will need in order to do your job efficiently.

If you are interested to become a private detective or private investigator , there are some necessary tools and equipment you will need in order to do your job efficiently. The cost of some equipment is too high, so you can also start off with some cheap equipment. There are some equipment and tools that are essential to begin with, while others will just make the job a bit easier.

It depends on what kind of private investigating you will be specializing in, because sometimes expensive equipment won't be necessary. Here is a list of equipment & tools that you will definitely need:

  • Access to the Public Records Database. This is one the most important tools that you can have in private investigative work. By having access to these public records, you can find almost anyone. You can also check criminal records, marriages, divorces, death records, or any other records.
  • A digital camera with a good megapixel. You will also need a good video camera with a good microphone and speaker system.
  • A tape recorder.
  • A good pair of binoculars. While doing surveillance work, you will need these to be able to see at a distance.
  • Cell phone and computer. I'm sure almost everybody has these items, but they deserve a mention anyway.
  • Pocket Size GPS. The small size makes it handy to carry with you wherever you go.
  • Rear view shades. These beautiful glasses allow you to walk in front of a suspect to keep an eye on him or her. They work like the rear view mirror in a car.

Private investigating is not an easy job and it can be a challenge at times. If you're serious about doing investigative work, it's important that you have all the necessary tools and equipment to do an effective and efficient job.
